Trip description

Scramble up exposed rock face mountain on Hudson river, GREAT UNOBSTRUCTED SCENIC VIEWS! Hike through woods along ridge to get to and climb up an old "Ranger Fire Tower" more great views. Hike some more to get to old casino ruins. Hike down, go for dinner (optional).

  • NY Thruway towards ALBANY (36 miles).
  • Exit 17, towards Interstate 84 East (note: thruway does not connect to I-84, at end of Thruway ramp bear right onto RT-300/Union Ave for 1/4 mile. Then get on I-84 East for 5 miles).
  • Just over the "Beacon Newburgh Bridge", take exit 11 to get on 9D South towards Beacon.
  • The meeting spot is located 4.3 miles down 9D. Its a small deli located 1/4 mile past the 5th light, atop an uphill climb, on the left side at the corner of a 90 degree right hand turn. It's called "Bob's Corner Store" (if it's still there).
